Pz.Kpfw.V Panther Ausf.G fast build
By: Vladimir Grigoriev
Awarded: Gold
Manufacturer: ITALERI
Modifications:
Since this model is a fast-assembly one, I made only tiny improvements - I've drilled exhaust pipes and muzzle brake and covered gaps with plaster.
Description:
The model represents a vehicle from 25 Panzer-grenadier division during operation "Nordwind". The way of applying whitewash camo is based upon a real photo but because that photo wasn't of a best quality and shows not all sides of a vehicle, I just had to follow the main idea of the pattern while reconstructing this camo. The model is painted by Vallejo acrylics, whitewash is made via hairspray technique with usage of artistic tempera. Weathering is made by W&N oils, dry pastels and gloss coat.

Being a fast-build type kit, there’s not much to speak of in respect of basic build and alignment, but the finish is where this model shines. The white wash is very nicely applied, conferring the look of a hastily applied scheme, while maintaining its scale fidelity. A few runs in the white wash on the vertical surfaces might have added to this effect. The scrapes, scratches and general wear to the white wash in the heavily traveled areas really add to overall impression. What is also striking is how effective your washes have been in making the molded-on tool and other exterior components look like separate parts. I’d truly enjoy seeing these techniques applied to a full kit. Lovely finish & weathering!

Not too much to say about the build, nice work with the filler though!
The paintwork and weathering on the other hand look rather complex and quite nicely done, giving a very realistic overall effect. Your whitewash in paticular looks convincingly battered and worn, contrasting well with the underlying camouflage. The mud effects on the running gear too are very realistic and extend appropriately to other areas of the vehicle without smothering it completely. While you have, as has been pointed out, done a fine job of making the moulded on tools stand out, some of the metallics used look a little strange and overly bright.

I'm a big fan of using 'war game' kits to practice on building up one's skill set, so much can be learnt when the fear of stuffing up 50 hours of hard graft constructing a mini marvel has been put out of ones mind. I really like what you've acheived, the white wash looks great with realistic amounts of wear and tear where I'd expect to see it. The running gear looks good and the details have been well painted, the jack block looks especially good. Very good work, well done.
